There was a time when, if you were away from home and needed to make a phone call, you had to find a public phone and put coins into it to make a call. There was a time when, if you wanted to see the box score from that night's ball game or check tomorrow's movie times, you had to wait for the morning paper. There was a time when if you wanted to see a movie, you had to go to the movies. Why strain your vocal chords instantly when we can text instantly, email instantly or tweet instantly -- from anywhere with a device that fits in your pocket. And if you didn't have enough coins or nobody answered, you were flat out of luck. And there was a time when, if the power went out, you lit a candle, turned on a transistor radio and waited.
 

1960′s Apollo Satellite Transistor Radio

  Very cool unique looking, one side turns the radio on and increase volume and the other side adjust the radio. The battery compartment needs some attention, one of the red wires and a metal tab is loose so. I could not test the radio, should be easily restorable. Reminds me of the space race during the 60's and Sputnik back in the late 50's. Clear plastic top removable, gold base is metal, sound comes out of base, Faux wooden base is plastic where the batteries are inserted.   Uses 4 AA batteries so I assume you could convert it to a simple 6v AC adapter laying around the house fairly easily.   Some of the components inside.   Nice piece of Space history from Japan....

Today, my fellow music aficionados, I would like to share 45 minutes worth of musical memories, playing 23 of my favorite 45’s from my early childhood during the seemingly carefree decade of the 1950’s. One of my favorite pastimes as a child was pretending that I was a disc jockey on a make-believe radio station, like KFWB, Channel 98, and I’d introduce each tune to my fantasy radio audience, like the guys I listened to all the time while growing...
